“Katie is one of our dental assistants and has been with our practice since last fall. She previously worked for Community Health Services of Central Washington in their Senior Smiles Program, traveling in a mobile dental clinic.
I love Katie’s laugh and can hear it often throughout our office. She entertains us with her puppy stories and pictures of their adventures. Her little Corgi Pekingnese puppy “Cooper” loves to join her for bike rides and kayaking – she has a little doggy pack!
I appreciate Katie’s eagerness to learn and grow; we all depend on her and without a doubt know that she will do what is asked, do whatever it takes, and provide great care to our patients. She brings joy to our practice every day – Thank you Katie.” – Belinda

Welcome Kelsey to the Team
We are so excited to have Kelsey join our team.
Kelsey is our newest dental assistant. She recently moved to Washington from Maryland with her husband.
Kelsey enjoys painting, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and exploring what Washington has to offer with her crazy dog, Loki.

Olympia Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic
Since 2003, the Olympia Union Gospel Mission No-Fee Dental Clinic has been staffed by volunteer dental professionals. Now serving over 2,000 patients a year, the clinic provides emergency services to Thurston County residents living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level who have no dental insurance or alternate means to pay for care.
February 2016 The Mission opened their new facility. It is a state-of-the-art dental facility located downtown Olympia. Friday, April 15th, Amanda and Dr. Bode volunteered their first day at the new clinic.
Sonya, Amanda, Alyssa, and Dr. Bode have volunteered at the Mission since 2007. Judy and Dr. Russell have volunteered at the Mission since Dr. Russell graduated from dental school and moved to Olympia in 2005. Judy volunteered with Dr. Russell, Sr., prior to that and helped Linda Barrett, the Clinic Director, with the initial set-up of the clinic.
Every year Dr. Russell participates in the Annual OUGM Concert to raise money for the Dental Clinic.
The Free Dental Clinic is a wonderful service for our community. Thank you to all the volunteers and donors that keep the mission going strong. Thank you to Linda Barrett for your leadership for keeping the clinic running day after day, year after year.

Free Dental Day 2016 a success!
We hosted our 7th Annual Free Dental Day April 30, 2016.
We treated over 100 patients with our team of four doctors and over twenty volunteers.
We provided cleanings, extractions, and fillings to anyone in need. It was a beautiful day for the patients who waited outside and our team greeting and checking in patients.

Climbing for Kids
We are proud to have supported yet another successful Climbing For Kids event put on by the children and staff at Centennial Elementary School, where Dr. Russell’s son, Peyton is in first grade. The students climbed for a school record 54,225 points which equates to more than $5,000 in pledges to purchase farm animals for families in need through Heifer International. Way to go kids! And, thanks to all of the families and community members who support our schools and children. We are blessed to have such wonderful schools in the South Puget Sound.

Our Free Dental Day Story
Free Dental Day: April 30, 2016
Bode Family Dentistry hosted our First Annual Free Dental Day in 2009. The idea was 100% our team. While on a CE trip, Walter, Sonya, and Alyssa observed another office participating in a “Dentistry from the Heart” event. In 2007, Dr. Bode, Alyssa, and Sonya begun volunteering at the Olympia Union Gospel Mission and working with Linda Barrett – the Director of the OUGM Dental Clinic. We could treat 8-12 people each day at the mission. But we conservatively thought we could treat 80 patients in a day at our office with a little help from our friends. Our goal was simply to support our community in the best way we knew how. We understand the need for care is tremendous, but every little bit matters. Every person we can help even in a small way – matters.
That first year we treated over 130 patients working from 6 am until 7 pm in our original five-operatory practice. Over the years we have streamlined our systems and increased our efficiency, but our core event has not changed. We still provide cleanings, extractions, and fillings to anyone in need.
In 2013, Dr. Bode and Dr. Russell created a partnership to form Russell and Bode Family Dentistry. We opened our new building in 2014 and hosted our first Free Dental Day as a partnership in 2015. Our new facility and wonderful team has allowed us to increase our capacity for treatment.
A special thanks to everyone who has volunteered over the years – especially Dr. Gannon Stahl and Meridith Howell – who have volunteered every year.
And finally, thank you to my original team – Walter, Alyssa, Sonya, and Pam – who have been there every step of the way. An incredible amount of resources go into planning and executing our event every year and it would not be possible without them.

Featured Team Member: Amanda
Amanda has been a dental assistant at our practice for two years. Away from the office, she enjoys playing with her three daughters, bar-be-queing, and going on camping adventures. She loves spending time with her friends and family.

Hailey-Featured Hygienist at Russell, Maynard, and Bode Family Dentistry
Hailey is one of our hygienists. Hailey and her husband, Ryan, enjoy spending time outdoors, fishing, hiking, and they love being with friends and family. They are currently expecting their first child in August! Hailey and Ryan are very excited to become parents.
