I’d like to share my story so you have a sense of who I am and what I value. I was born and raised in Olympia, Washington, and have maintained close ties to my community. After attending Olympia High School, I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Puget Sound, GO LOGGERS! I spent the next four years at the University of Washington School of Dentistry where I was honored to receive four Governance and Service awards along with the Washington Academy of General Dentistry Service award.
In 2005, I joined my father’s dental practice in Tumwater, which he started in 1973. My father and I were blessed to practice side by side. I was thankful to learn from a man whose gentle nature, forward thinking, and excellence at his craft was legendary. Practicing with my father allowed me to learn many skills beyond the scope of a typical general dentist. I sought continuing education in areas that sparked a passion. This included the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants and bone grafting, the restoration of smiles using the minimally invasive Bioclear method, and the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliances. It was clear that I was committed to a journey of lifelong learning.
In 2014, I was fortunate to join my practice with William C. Bode, DDS, and his team. The support fostered by this partnership has allowed me to vigorously pursue my specialty areas of focus. Specifically, I began to treat more patients with TMJ problems, many of whom also had obstructive sleep apnea. Today, I focus more than 50% of my practice on the treatment of TMJ disorders, facial pain, headaches, and sleep related breathing disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea.
I am honored to join a handful of dentists in Washington State who have achieved diplomate status from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. I am also a member of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, the American Dental Association, The Academy of General Dentistry, and, the Thurston/Mason County Dental Society.
Like my father before me, I thrive when connecting with my patients and team on a personal level. I believe that empathy, listening and asking the right questions are vital to understanding patient concerns. Knowledge, skill, experience, and a highly trained team are critical to achieve treatment success, which improves a person’s quality of life in a meaningful and often profound way. I am grateful to have a team of people surrounding me who share this vision.
