Have you always had sensitive teeth?

We have a new treatment available for sensitive teeth at Russell and Bode Family Dentistry:

Laser Desensitization

Dentinal hypersensitivity (sensitivity on the gumline) is very common.  In fact, most patients have some degree of sensitivity at least some of the time.  Often, sensitivity will be improved and even eliminated after a thorough cleaning – either a standard “prophy” or a “deep cleaning” depending on your periodontal condition – and oral hygiene instruction.  Plaque leads to sensitivity!!!

However, many people with good oral hygiene still experience some degree of sensitivity.  We recommend a variety of products to combat sensitivity – MI paste, Sensodyne Toothpaste, Act Fluoride Rinse – to name a few.

When decay or deep undercuts are present in addition to the sensitivity, fillings or crowns are recommended.  A referral to a periodontist for grafting is also considered.

WE NOW HAVE A NEW TREATMENT AVAILABLE:  LASER DESENSITIZATION

With no anesthetic required, we simply sweep the laser over the sensitive area.  There is no discomfort and in most cases the sensitivity relief is immediate.  Our initial results have been fantastic.

From the International Journal of Dentistry article “Treatment of Dentin Hypersensitivity by Diode Laser:  A Clinical Study”, “according to these results, the GaAlAs laser showed a very high capability to improve immediately the DH-related pain, both alone and even better in combination with NaF gel. On the other hand, the sole gel results, even if positive, cannot equalize the performances of laser in the immediate. These results have to be confirmed by greater samples of patients and by longer follow-up periods (e.g., 3 and 6 months) to confirm or not the long-lasting action of the combined laser and gel therapy.”

***Our laser is also effective in treatment aphthous ulcers (canquer sores) and cold sores***

It can reduce healing time, pain, and size of ulcer.
